ARRAS

LOCATION: Assam and Meghalaya, India
AREA OF WORK: Poverty Alleviation and Sustainability

Arras is what you get when you mix love for fashion with a commitment towards a greener planet. With roots in Assam and Meghalaya, Arras works with the unique textile strengths of the Northeast Region of India in primarily cruelty-free fabrics made out of something called Peace Silk. That’s correct. Or, how it’s known locally in Assamese as Eri Silk. It’s one of its kind and is indigenously found in that region, where the silk is extracted from the cocoons without killing the silkworms, making it absolutely cruelty free. Hence, being called Peace or Ahimsa or Eri Silk.

Our story
Our mission

SUPPORTING MANY HOMES

The work at Arras is geared towards achieving the parallel goals of creating responsible fashion while generating sustainable livelihood opportunities for the weavers in Northeast India. Their main aim is to bring to light the intricate and vibrant craftsmanship skills across the eight sister states of Northeast India, through timeless handmade designs. All this, while treating the artisans ethically and remunerating them fairly. Arras’ platform is built on three principles – cultural brilliance, diversity and a non-exploitative value chain.
