Madurkathi or madur is a reed called madur kottir, or madurkathi, a sedge of the family Cyperaceae. Mat weaving in Medina pur has histroic significance and the art has been passed down from generation to genertion. Becasue of this reason the mats also carry a geographical indication (GI) tag.
